Default Sunroof Track

Alright, so i have had this sunroof rattle for a while and i decided to take a look up there to see what might be the matter. It looks like there is the track where the mechanism slides to pull the sunroof up or down, however within this track there is a insert (It seems almost like it is purposley there so that this insert is worn on over time, not the metal of the insert itself. Does anyone know how to replace this (do i need to take the sunroof off or not, how to get the thing that slides threw there off?) I checked the service manual but I couldnt find much.

Thanks

Those are just plastic clips that snap in, its designed to absorb the wear from the sunroof arm when using the "tilt" function. You can just remove them (what i do) or replace them.
To replace them you need to take out the six T25 torx bolts for the sunroof glass and pull it out from the top. Now you can access the clips from the roof of the car and snap in new ones.
Make sure to use some white out on the sunroof glass bolts because thats the adjustment on the window, and if you mess it up, you can end up with a hell of a wind noise.

Well, it seems like the part that raddles is when that pin is in a place where the insert is missing, so i cant figure out how you are able to just remove them, doesnt the sunroof rattle then becuase there is more play where the pin is? In case we are talking about something else i attached a picture

Bump, and i my second question that i though you had to remove all the pillars to take the roof of so you can slide the tracks out and then replace that insert, orcan you just take the glass off and remove those pins so you can pop the insertout? Thanks --- sorry your responding to all of these sunroof threads haha probably gets a little repetitive.

Just take the glass out, see those little bolts right above the arrows in your pic? Take out all those bolts and get that glass out of there. Thats the only way to you can see what your looking at.

To change the sunroof track yes you have to remove all the pillar trims and drop down the headliner, but thats what were trying to figure out, if its bad or not.

Damn that sux im glad mine wasnt that bad.. Well heres what sux, all i think i need is the plastic inserts in the track not the whole track itself, but all audi sells is the entire track plus the inserts for 130 bux when i could get an entire used sunroof assembly (glass and all i believe) for 150 bux. Someone suggested maybe putting a nylon roller over that pin to fill the gap if i pulled the plastic insert out which is a good idea, i just cant imagine finding one thats a perfect fit.
