I woul think they'd be the same - suspension is all interchangeable and I'm pretty sure I've heard of at least one guy replacing a V6 in his car with a 1.8T. Not positive though.

I think I remember reading in one of the 4.2 swap threads that the 1.8 subframe had to be replaced with a 2.8 subframe in order for the 4.2 to bolt up. That would make me think they are different, no? I could be wrong, but check out the 4.2 swap threads here or audizine.

is there any v6 to 1.8t swaps around? i know the engine mounts are different and the front rad support is what i think your referring to that had to be changed for the 4.2 swap. The 1.8 has a little more clearance. i have started accumulating parts starting with the block and head and got them to the machine shop. in the meantime I'm gathering parts need to complete it.

The front subframes are a little different depending on if it is an automatic or manual.

The v6 subframe is the same as the 1.8t auto subframe, but the 1.8t manual subframe is different from the v6 because there are different tranny mounts.

interesting. thanks melo man, looks like I'm getting new subframe then. since i need to go 1.8 and manual. any other parts one might think are the same but are actually different? I'm pretty much ripping the whole kit and caboodle out and sticking a 1.8 front clip in.

Don't forget all the exhaust components as well - they're different. And document the swap - that'd make one hell of a DIY procedure. You'll need Vagcom to recode your instrument cluster to take signals from the four-cylinder as well.

forgot all about exhaust, thanks for that, haha. not only is it a 1.8 its gone be a helluva monster stroker. Of course there will be documentation. i will show everyone its a cost effective upgrade to this single turbo shenanigans. i bet my whole build minus the rods and pistons will come in cheaper then the turbo kit.

What year is your car? And is it automatic or manual? One other thing to look at is the drivetrain. The automatics and manual drivetrains have different ratios so just make sure those match up so you dont have to switch out the rear diff/driveshaft.

Another thing to consider is that the front axles on v6's (and 2001 automatic 1.8t's) have bigger hub sizes so you may need different axles depending on what you have and what you're going to.

Nice to see people doing some more builds here.

Will you also be stroking this to a 2.0L?
