Strange hum, and strange smell! Help?

On a serious note: when the wheel bearings fail in these cars, it's rare that there is any play. If there is play, it's bad... VERY bad!
For PS leaks, look around the crimped sections of the flexible lines and the areas around the rack as they are common points of failure. You'll usually see a lot of dirt build-up around a small leak.
