Strange buzz/hum upon acceleration???
So my car has been making a strange buzz/hum sound upon accelerating. It is most evident between 2000 - 3000 RPM's,. does anyone have any idea what it may be? My thought is that it has something to do with the throttle since it occurs when the gas is pressed. Any help is appreciated.

before anyone yells at you, post your year, engine etc... cant get help with no info.
with different sounds, it also helps to have a video recording of it if possible. maybe hard while driving, but maybe sitting in park and revving? just an idea.

Since we don't have info like NHolzschuh mentioned I'm going to take a HUGE shot in the dark.
Do you have any type of aftermarket stereo in your car? you could be getting feed back / interference with the stereo / motor. You will only hear it at low RPMs, a test would be to turn the radio off and see if the noise still exists.
Again, this is all just a huge guess

I'm going to throw out that its a wheel bearing. Seeing as they're a very common failure with our cars, it seems very plausible. OP: after it starts making the noise while driving, see if it changes as you turn the wheels; if it quiets down when turning one way and gets louder turning the other, it's a wheel bearing. If it gets louder when you turn the wheels left (either to make a left turn, or just a lane change, or following a curve in the road) it'll be a wheel bearing on the right side of the car; opposite if it gets louder when you turn right. If it seems like it stops at 3k rpms, its still possible that its the wheel bearing, you just have enough engine/road noise at that rpm that it overpowers the sound of the wheel bearing.

Thanks for the ideas, to clarify I have a 98' 2.8L V6. The noise occurs when the stereo is off and it doesn't change when turning the wheel. It occurs upon accelerating from being stopped, stops when I push in the clutch and then begins again when I press the gas again after shifting.

Hmmm, that sounds transmission related then, of which I am no expert, but auditech79 could potentially shed more light on the matter. If I recall previous matters similar to this, I think the name he used once before was "throwout bearing" which is in the clutch I think, but like I said I could be waaaaaaaaay wrong on all this.
