Default Stock clutch potential

I was wondering how much power/torque the factory b5 1.8t clutches could hold?

About the same. Or at least most people would not trust it with much if any more than that. I would never get a bt for an auto. A k04 at most.

There are guys running elims, GT28rs/71 and even GT30-GT35r's on their automatic transmission.

BTW the stock 1.8t clutch is good for about 250hp unless you are trying to launch it hard and at that point it isn't worth much at all.

How long have they been running those turbos on their auto's? And who are they? Did they do any upgrades like from levelten? I know it's been done, but I'd have serious doubts about longevity and driveability. Tip is sloshy enough with a chip, I can only imagine how it would bog down between shifts with the use of a bt.

I'm surprised that some guys are running 2871r's. Even with an upgraded TC and VB the gears have got to shift like crap if you go bigger than a 30.

The only time it might shift ok is WOT through every gear like at the track. Daily driving would be a bitch.

Is there any way to build up the auto tranny some? Talking about bogging down between shifts wouldnt the GIAC auto tranny flash help that?

No the tip chip just shortens the reaction time between pressing the +/- buttons and when the tranny actually shifts. So when chipped, it starts to shift pretty much imediately after you up/down shift manually compared to the 1 second or so delay between when you tell the tranny to shift, and when it actually gets around to doing that. It doesnt mechanicaly affect how fast the tranny shifts. AWE/GIAC's product description on that is totally misleading.
www.levelten.com does valve body/tq converter upgrades. But in the end, it's still an automatic.
