ive been looking for this answer as well. i put a autometer boost gauge in my 98 a4 a couple weeks ago, and its showing 10-11psi when i get on it. i thought it would only be in the 5-8psi range.

Autometer boost gauges give you an extra 2 psi

I have a Glowshift boost gauge. It's displays about 1/2 to 1 PSI lower than what it should be. I know this because it sits at about 1/2 to 1 inHg when the car is off. Any way to adjust this?

I emailed GIAC and they have no record of tuning an ECU with my VIN. I'll ask every well known chip tuning company until I find out where my mystery chip is from.

it is really hard to find out what chip you have. i spent about 3 months trying to figure it out and email every chip company that i could find and no one had a record of my vin.

i bet what happened in my car is the former owner tradred a stock brain for a chipped brain which goes on all the time, and since i have no idea what the vin of that car was i am unable to find out whos program is in it

That sucks, looks like I may have the same problem.

Would any tuning company be able to tell if my car is chipped?

Well its better to be chipped and not know which tuner then not be chipped at all.

To add to the confusion, I noticed that I'm no longer getting that excessive boost. It only peaks at about 7 or 8 psi now. Also my CEL is no longer on for some reason. I'll check it with my vagcom just to be sure.

Most likely in limp mode now.

Ok, now it's back to the way it was before, peaking around 21 psi.

Limp mode is around 7 or 8 psi? It felt somewhat normal, not excruciatingly slow like I figured limp mode would be. You may be right though, I don't have that much experience with these things.

I've also noticed the boost comes in kind of inconsistently, feels like it's hesitating. A problem with the N249 valve I'm guessing?
