So again, im having more trouble with my car. It started with a p0171 code whenever id sit at highway speeds in 5th gear. then, it started throwing p0170 when id clear the p0171 code. When that happend, it would missfire like no other and had no power and surged bad. so i would clear that and it would be fine until i went through that circle again. One day, after the p0170 code it threw a p0304 code, missfire cylinder 4. Now, on the drive home today, i got a p0303, missfire cylinder 3, and p0328, knock sensor. I have no idea whats wrong with ym car anymore.....

 

Well, P0171 is Secondary Air Pump and P0170 is lean condition, then you also have misfires. P0171 can also be caused by a boost/vacuum leak, which can cause a lean or rich condition and cause misfires. Do you have a boost gauge? If you don't, I'd suggest checking manually for leaks.

is good for checking it out. I built one out of a PVC 90 degree bend, a cap and a compressor fitting.
Anywho, that's my suggestion. I have that stupid secondary air pump code on my '01 as well. Not planning on fixing it.

 

There are no boost or vacuume leaks. i have a boost guage, and when it hits full boost, even if there is no code, the car will sometimes missfire. when there is the p0170 code, there is a missfire whenever i am i boost. I no longer boost to 20 psi, but now about 15. when i hit full boost in any gear where it will be in that RPM range for a bit (3/4/5th), the needle bounces around when i am there. When i have no muffler in, there is a god awefull noise when i hit full boost loud and obnoxious, but not the 10,000 screaming babies of a dieing turbo. When i hit full boost, there is a loud consistant rattle/vibration noise coming from what sounds like around the intercooler area, but it is hard to tell as i am sitting by my drivers window while driving.
