Default Starts in gear? Cruise control, shuts off, or doesn't work at all.

1996 A4 Cruise sometimes works, somtimes doesn't at all or just shuts off after a few miles. Cleaned stauk with contact cleaner, removed modual and took apart not looked cracked or not soldered....But know i just remembered that the car is a 5 speed and starts in gear with out the cluch depressed. Is that normal? Sholdnt it only start in nutral or in gear with the clutch down?? I was just going to have the modual rebuilt but know i dont know. Are there a few places to get them rebuilt?

i dont think its normal to start w/o clutch in. i bet someone who had it before had a remote starter installed cause that disables all that kinda stuff

no, never had a remote starter...its a standard so its almost imposiable to find anyone to install one in a 5 speed. So its suspose to only start with clutch down right.

Its completely possible to have a remote starter in a manual. Someone on here recently had a story about his car being left in gear and he remote started it from his girlfriend's house and when he walked outside his car had hit the corner of someone else's house.

it is completely possible for a remote start. i work at circuit city and deal with car audio so i guess you could say i have been exposed to this stuff. the easiest way to clear this as a problem would be to take it to your local ccity (slash best buy slash ultimate electronics or whatever) and just ask them to take a look at your car and tell you if you have a remote start. if you wanna look yourself there could be a box located near your brake pedal under the plastic right above it. more noticably you could see a button or switch around that area.

It doesnt have a remote starter. I know it doesnt, im the second owner and have been through entire car...all stock. So i assume the clutch safty switch must be not working or stuck closed...have any of you seen this? I dont think its related to the crusise not working all the time as i was thinking it was the modual. the car always started with out the cltch down, so its not sometimes like the cruise problem.
