Default Stalling problem, Please Help

OK, so all of a sudden my car starts stalling out almost everytime I slow down to below 5mph... for some reason, when I am coming to a stop, and downshift or shift to neutral, the RPMs just dips real low, most of the time stalling out completely. I am able to start right up right away again with no problem, and besides that it runs smooth, but the constant stalling is embarrassing and worrying. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a CEL? Get your ecu scanned for fault codes. There may be a fault that is related but did not trigger the CEL. It doesn't try to stall after you start it back up and let it idle? It only does this when slowing down to a stop?

No CEL and havent scanned yet, I will be doing that tomorrow. Yes, it only stalls after slowing down, not upon starting up ever... However, the idle has been a little funny lately, as in it hovers most of the time right under 1k rpm, but will occasionally but consistently dip pretty low (sub 400rpm), but has never stalled out for no reason before. Any ideas? even if no fault codes show up? Thanks again.

According to your previous threads, you've been having running issues for some time... Did you follow this suggestion from a while ago? It could very well be an issue with the alternator. It could also be that your ignitor/plug wires are toasted.

Try sending auditech79 a pm with the situation.

I actually have a similar problem to this, and it seems to happen when the car is idling. It would randomly just dip into low RPMs (200-400 range) And it stalled, only once when i left the car idling in my driveway, then as i walk back to it, the vehicle stalled. One suspicion was the throttle body, so i cleaned it out a bit. ( and still does the problem) No CEL. Did a scan sometime before when my vehicle was having other problems, and it gave me air leak in the intake. So i checked entire intake (From Filter to Throttle Body) and couldnt find any leaks. Another suspicion of mine is the Throttle Position Sensor is going bad. But otherwise, not terribly sure myself.

When you did the scan and got an "air leak in the intake"... whatever that means, did you record the fault code? We gotta have specific fault codes to help you out. Rescan and post the code(s). Also at least replace your ignition wires as good measure. They are certainly toasted after 10+ years and 100k+ miles.

Never ever heard of an ects causing an engine to stall at least with these engines. I know jc that you thought that was your problem but you found out it was something else

yea, but i had help with a vw expert, and he said that that could have been a problem... also i was talking to theTTkid about it once and i think he said it happened to his tt and it was the camshaft positioning sensor or something that cost a couple 100$

Your vw expert is wrong If the ects is bad then you'd just run rich when you shouldn't, but not to the point where the engine would stall or exhibit any obvious running issues other than a hard start when the engine is warm.
