Can't really rely on GPS. I've seen some of the lower priced ones be off upwards of 5 mph either way.
That is a better method for sure.

I know that my TomTom is accurate within a mph or two at 65 though.

Do you have a GPS? Compare the GPS speed to your car's speed.

I could be wrong, but I would bet your speedometer is working just fine. If it wasn't, I doubt it would read +-10mph. Usually they either work or they don't.
In his OP, he said they were driving one behind the other. One speedo read 60mph while the other read 70mph. Now, maybe her memory or perception was wrong. But I was going off the OP, which really does suggest that her speedo was off by 10mph.

Have you ever tried to match speed and distance with someone on the interstate? It's kind of a PITA. Were the two of you keeping the same interval from one another or were you doing the ruck march slinky?

+1 on the mile marker method.

Also there was an iphone app called speedometer or something we used to use back in my drunk driving all over the country phase... worked pretty well I think, might be worth a shot

Shouldnt have to time it, from one mile marker to the next is one mile. watch the odo flip.
