Default Speaker help

I have a 2001 A4 with the Bose Symphony I system. The speaker on the driver's side door (not the tweeter on top, the big speaker near the pedals) is not working properly. I don't want to replace the whole speaker system and I want to keep everything looking stock. Is it true that I can only use Bose speakers with the headunit? If not, what else can I use and if so, where should I look for a replacement besides ebay and ecs? Also, Before I tear off the door panel, does anybody know the part number of that speaker? Thanks

mine does that too, most of the times it is buzzing but on a good day it works just fine. i was told that the dust cap might be loose but it is not, you might want to check your dust cap and if its loose just glue it back on. i have a feeling that the speaker might be fine its just a crappy connection or something? btw it takes like a minute to take off the door panel so you should just check it.

That's good to know. I'll get on that sometime this week. Thanks

You can use whatever speaker you want. I replaced all mine with boston acoustic and I couldnt be happier and was able to use the same covers to retain the stock appearance.

with the speakers, the audi ones have funny mountings (3 slots for screws rather than the 4 that most have) so if as long as you stick with audi speakers, it should be good,
HOWEVER, definitely check first and make sure that the wiring is still good to the head unit, sometimes all that needs done is to rewire a speaker and it sounds much better.

sometimes, it isnt necessarily something that you can see. i just replaced the stupid wires and found that my speakers sounded better (which is what i would recommend since wires are really cheap and available at many hardware stores)

there are 2 wires that are coming off the speakers right? so just replace them? or inspect for cuts and connection

i just replaced mine, i connected the new wires to a little bit of wire that i left from the harness behind the head unit (it might take some digging to find which one you need to connect it to, and make sure you figure this out before you start replacing any wires or you could end up like me, driving for weeks with sound only coming from 2 speakers)
