Alright heres the problem. Ive got auto dimming mirrors. Both side mirrors pass and driver side works correctly. Whenever a headlight is shown in the rear view mirror the side mirrors will dim. The only problem is that the rear view mirror does not dim. It stays completely un-dimmed if you will while the side mirrors dim very much. Any ideas here? I am sure im looking at a new rear view mirror, I just have never noticed any fluild leaking from the rear view. And I would figure that if there was an actual issue with the rear view mirrors that the sides wouldnt work. Advice if any would be helpful. Thanks a bunch.

you are prob looking at a new one i know its a very common issue i drove one with only 60,000 miles that had the same issue and it was a 01 i think the replacement is like $1200 not worth fixing

BTW im glad that you love to respond to my threads . Very helpful in most cases. You've seen a case where the rear view mirror doesnt dim but the side mirrors do? And you think its gonna cost $1200 for a rear view mirror? Im also a little confused, considering i know the sensor works since the side mirrors work correctly. I thought i've heard of people getting auto dimmer rear views from shokan.

hah thanks for the update. I would agree that 350 is more reasonable. Still would like some input if anyones got any as to a fix or solution short of buying a new mirror.

yep i know what you mean dont spend the money unless u have it and if u haft too i think you will be able to live with the mirrow like that but hmm have you bought vag com yet? most of the people on here have like 97-99 and that mirror occured in 99.5 and im a 99 so i can only go so far with you.

Ya i've got vagcom. I'm actually work on audi's. Well mostly Porsches, but audi's and VW's as well. I find that some of these weird audi quarks are easier to diag. through the audi forums. Not a HUGE fan of using computers to diag. stuff but technology is changing i suppose i should get with the program.

My sideviews dim but my rearview doesn't. If the rearview has that **** right under it or there are no wires running from the roof to the mirror than your rearview is not auto-dimming.
