Definitely, IMO, for fuel efficiency your best bet would be a TDI. Friend of mine has an '02 TDI Golf, gets about 55MPG. More fuel efficient and better for the environment than a hybrid.

This one have the timing on the passager side is a transversal engine , but still with the savings on gas what u can get from s 1.9 tdi a timing belt is well well worth'it if u have the chance to get one jump on it this is my advice to you , my uncle has an 02 golf avant tdi has 230k and that thing still run strong and starts right up after a night outside in a freezing cold, he lives in vancouver WA. He loves that car 5 speed and he gets around 60 mpg highway

I just bought a 2004 ford focus zx5 with 56k on it, and that thing is a lot of fun. I have to say that it handles better than the quattro did o.O maybe because its so small. Just wanted to say bye to everyone on the forum, it was fun owning the audi and she will be missed.

i just did a little test for my own edification about gas mileage. At WOT under full boost, according to the LCD screen, my car gets 7mpg lol. If I stay out of boost and take it easy on the skinny pedal, I can get upwards of 30mpg. Not too shabby IMO

U are absolutly right , 1.8t engines are great on gas as long as u have a light foot, my old b5 got around 30-35 mpg , but here is flat terain allso but this 2.8 is a little gas guzzler compare to 1.8t
