Default SO I've got this noise... (story of my life)

Hey guys,

So I already have two noises in my car, one coming from the front left upper strut mount which is bearable, and another coming from my brakes because well they will be changed in the next 2 weeks... But today a new noise has appeared...

The noise sounds exactly like well...you know when you have a glass bottle with a metal cap, an old orange juice bottle maybe, and you undo the metal cap it pops out...then you can press the metal cap in and out for fun... Well thats the kind of sound im getting. The noise seems to be coming from almost right under my feet. It seems to happen randomly but it is very odd indeed. It may have to do with the front strut bar?

Has anyone ever heard a noise like this?

Thanks

The front upper control arms will wear out way before the strut mount (bushing, actualy.) The other noise could well be a lower control arm bushing or ball joint. The control arms on our cars tend to be suicidal right around 100k miles.

lift up your wheels, grab 12 and 6 o clock with your hands and try to shake the wheel while watching the upper CA ball joints. also keep your other eye on the tie rods.

I would double check your nuts and bolts to be sure they are all tight then... Especially the sway bar links. I just did mine as well and ended up with a noise like you describe. Turned out my sway bar link wasn't as tight as it should have been. Was able to turn the nut about a full turn and now it's silent. There really isn't much else that can make these noises when the weight of the body shifts like you describe.

Did you losen the subframe mount in order to get the bottom rear CA bolt out? It's sort of a must-do, and did you retighten it back up? Check all that.

Yeah I was thinking it sounded like the subframe bolt may be loose, I'll get it up and check the subframe bolts along with all the other bolts. Maybe I thought it was tight when i did it but it has since loosened up or something.

So I just checked the checked it out, the subframe bolts were not loose at all and neither were the sway bar end links... Any other ideas?

I just drove the car around and the noise seems to be gone, I guess the little bit I tightened the bolts did the trick... we'll see.
