If the 2001 does have VVTi, and I'm pretty sure it does, then that would account for more than the turbo, I think. The turbo size is hardly bigger.

It's the same size turbo, just a better flowing turbine and compressor...

It's only about a 20 HP difference between stock 96-00 and the 01. I say only, but 20 HP does make a difference

hmm well I deff dont want a 2.8 because I want to be able to mod at least SOME. that picture makes the 99.5 very appealing, however its going to be a daily driver so I guess ill just have to see what I can get a better deal on. I suppose whatever I get will handle like a dream, look sexy and at least have some power. thanks for all the help

What all does the 01.5 have that's different from all other b5 models, other than the 170 HP vs. the 150 HP stock???

That's about it. I think the facelift cars have real cup holders and you have the possibility of maybe getting a Phatbox system from the factory. I mean mechanically there isn't much of a difference. Personally I like the 2.8 but all the GIAC chip does is give be 10 more horse and 10 more lb/ft. but it also raises my rev limiter to 7100 rpm and kills the speed governer.

OH MAN I realized today how much I HATED shopping for cars lol. I personally find it ridiculous when someone asks WAY too much for a car and wont budge on price at all lol. If your cars got problems dont ask for the best blue book price IMO...BUT there is someone somewhere that will probably buy it lol. Anyways if anyone sees a nice looking 99.5-01 1.8t can you post a link here for me im having a hell of a time finding anything worth looking at...fwd models...automatics...170,xxx+ miles. thanks again for any info leading to me in another car lol im going crazy staying home all the time.

You're looking for a manual, quattro with about 100-120K I'm guessing? Gotta be patient, check craig's list like twice a day, once in the morning, and once in the afternoon. That's how I found mine...

haha your a mind reader yeah i check it CONSTANTLY. I should have added in WA state or near portland oregon lol. I might have found one in portland im going to call them tomorrow, the miles are a little higher than I would like BUT if they are open to negotiations I might take it. just realized its not a 99.5 after actually paying attention to it...oh well I might still look

Yeah, be patient. I jumped on mine for $2900. And then I found out that I needed to do timing belt (he'd done just the belt, not the tensioner, and he also got it a tooth off) and that the turbo was toast, etc. etc. I've had it torn apart for like a month or more.
