So I decided
that I love audi way too much to get something different. however, this time around im being a whole lot smarter in purchasing this vehicle now that I know what to expect. I have an assortment of stuff to look at. the three that im looking at I have a 99,00,01 all of these are out of state vehicles but not more than 2 hours away I have some family located there and plan to have them possibly go look at them for me. im requesting receipts and other documents be emailed or faxed to me. anyways my question is.... AM I FORGETTING ANYTHING?!

You looking at the 1.8T or 2.8? If you're going for a car to tune, try to get a 99.5 with the 1.8T. I didn't know it at the time when I bought mine, but the 99.5 was the last time they used the AEB engine which has the much larger ports, allowing for a better flow, and more HP in the long run. Plus the 99.5 has the facelift with 1 piece headlights, clear side markers, new tails, and upgraded interior.
Of course, you may have known all this, but just wanted to share my opinion...
Oh, and definately quattro FTW!

Maybe those people would rather have carburetors, too.

mm yeah I know most of that, my goal is to find a 99.5 or newer doesnt the 2001 come with a bit more power stock? My first audi was a fwd 99 I totaled it two weeks ago and was hesitant on getting another due to the high price in parts. HOWEVER.. I noticed that the hondas I was looking at were higher in insurance then the audi was for instance, the RSX I was looking at was 375 a month for insurance my audi being 245 a month. also I dont find the parts TOO expensive just a bit more than id prefer

Yes, the 2001 has more stock HP due to an upgraded turbo (K03s), but that's where it all stops. If you want to upgrade, stick with a 99.5, if you want to just chip it and call it a day, the 2001 would be great, because it's newer and probably fewer miles on the odo.
I was looking for this pic earlier to show my point about the AEB engine being able to flow better, and thus produce more HP in the long run.
In the end though, these are just my biased opinion, afterall, I have a 99.5

Hmmm, I don't know about the VVTi...
Truthfully, if you're not looking to mod at all, then a 2.8 might be your best bet, it has the most HP stock out of all of them... But if you're going to chip it, the 2001 1.8T will make slightly more power that a stock or chipped 2.8. Check this link for a quick comparison:
http://www.pes-tuning.com/so_g4.aspx You have to click Audi, then A4, and select the different year and engine, click the ECU button to compare those HP and TQ measurements.
Hope this helps...
