Was the filter pretty clogged and did you try seeing how the car idled without the filter?
If the filter is clogged to the point that it is causing a huge restriction in flow, it will cause the maf readings to be way too low and that will cause the car to stall since the ecu is not giving it enough fuel.
If the car idles fine with the filter out, just replace the filter with a new one.
