Single DIN to a 2DIN??
I got a 99.5 Audi A4 1.8T that has a single dash radio and I really want one of the new Pioneer In-Dash Navigation Units. Is it possible to change it from a single din to a double din and install a navigation; whether it be me or a car audio specialist? Thanks.

Yeah its Possible, just matters how big your wallet is. Basially your talking about ripping the entire center console apart, you will at least need the Double DIN cage that comes on 00+ a4s. Then you have to get the 00+ switches, center console trim, ashtray, and Climate Control Module.
I've seen people just use the 00+ switches, cage, and trim which is a lot cheaper considering the CC Module is going to set you back quite a bit. You basically end up dremeling the edges of your current CC module to fit where your ashtray is now.
My recommendation would be to purchase a Single-DIN nav/entertainment system like the Pioneer Avic N series (N1, N2, N3, etc), or find a local 00+ car that is being parted out. The Audi Navi Plus System is nice but real expensive. If you still plan on doing this expect to pay more than 2 grand to get everything done. I would stick with an RNS-E, since it uses one DVD to read the maps rather than 5 or so CDs (RNS-D and below). Stay away from RNS-C, it has no route re-calculation. Oh yeah you can't use the DVD/CD player built into the Audi Navigation System, you have to use an Audi compatible CD/DVD-Changer or a Phatbox. I believe on the RNS-E it includes SD memory slots that can read mp3s.
Go to navplus.us if your still considering to change from a single din to double, I believe there is a write-up there.

thanks for the advice.. yea it does seem easier to use a flip screen navigation but I'm probably going to change it. I'm kind of inexperienced too with audio and I really don't want to mess any thing up, you think it'd probably be best I take it to a shop? Probably will cost more tho?
