Default signs of a coil pack goin bad

Year:1996
Make: audi
Model: A4
Motor:2.8 v6
Transmission:5 speed fwd

Having a cylinder(6) misfire had it scanned put new plugs....seems to be getting worst slowly progressively. Leaning towards a dying coil.

Revs until 2100 rpms with a studdur when it misfires and it sucks and I want to fix this. Any idea's? Suggestions anything.

It seems to be on limp mode. Does the CEL flash?

From the symptom you're stating, it does sound like the coilpack.

Swap the spark plug wire going to 6 (where you have the misfire) with another one (make sure you swap the wire at both ends) and see if the problem follows.

Same thing happened to me and it was bad spark plug wires. (https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=135455)

If the CEL isnt blinking then it isnt detecting unburned fuel, which is a little unusual but doesnt automatically rule out a bad coil pack. Swap the cable like the guys said and see if the misfire switches as well. If it moves it is the cable (I had a bad one at one time), if you still get the misfire on cyl6 then its the coilpack most likely. More than likely the injector is fine. If the cable is bad, just go ahead and replace them all with magnetocores. When I am dealing with the ignition system, I just go ahead and seafoam the system, then change the plugs and wires while I am at it. Its a good idea to do them all at once. the factory NGK plugs are cheap and do just fine.

hey guys thanks for the responses!

ok i disconnected my battery for roughy 20 minutes and the misfire code never came back..only drove ti for about 2 hours though after i reconnected it. with this being said i still have the rough idle and shake problem up to about 2100k rpms

i was told its poteintly in limp mod and to correct it is to reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery.

the plugs are basicaly brand new guy told me he did a tune up on it but used the same wires for sure. i pulled a few plugs and they were all still pretty silver.

i seafoamed my car and to be honest it definetly got better. it wont rumble or shake at idle that bad anymore sometimes it doesnt do it. im thinking wires or coilpack......whats the chances of it being a wire or a coil pack? wat are some exact signs of the coil pack going bad?

Hey, I have a similar issue with my Audi. If it's rough while in idle, maybe you should have the engine mounts checked. I didn't realise this until a friend pointed it out. Try revving while stationary and see if the engine shifts.
