Should you hear your DV on a stock 1.8T?
From what I read, no one can hear their turbo spooling or DV opening an stock 1.8t's? Is this true, because I can hear both on my car and I am hoping that it's not a leak somewhere...

i personally dont think so, and i've driven lots of stock a4's. i would check for boost or exhaust leaks just to be sure

Mine you would only hear at wide open throttle and i never heard the dv sound. Then i put a cone filter on it and now you can hear the turbo start to spool right away and you can also hear the divert vavle clearly.

I can hear my turbo and DV from time to time. I believe it is because the accordian piece that connects the airbox to the front of the car intake port comes loose. Its never fallen off but when i check it, it's not on all the way. I also have a k&n filter.

A passenger pointed out the sound to me one day when my car was stock and I noticed it everytime from then on out, but it would pretty much have to be night and driving next to a wall or fence to tell what it was. '01 though, so slightly higher boost and the such.

01's are gonna be louder than the AEB guys. automatics are gona be slightly louder than manual guys when it comes to spool but quieter when it comes to the dv. a cone intake, less restricted exhaust, and dv will all make both spool and dv sound louder.
with any stock b5 you shouldn't be able to hear the turbo every time you step on the gas. at WOT, w/ a greater load than normal, and/or next to a wall with the window down, hearing it from time to time is normal, but if your hearing it all the time (if you are stock) you probly have a leak somewhere.
curtisimo- that "accordian" piece is the TIP and there should be a clamp holding it onto the MAF housing (which is connected to the airbox) to keep it in place. it shouldn't be coming off and if it is, your letting unmetered, unfiltered air directly into your turbo

its the piece that leads from the front grille to the filter housing. that isnt introducing umetered air, just opening the intake path before the filter. ill snap a pic when i get out of work.
