Short shifter recommendation?
#11
Yeah thats something i was concerned about as well. With the jhm it takes out the push reverse, and i've heard the shifting takes a while to get used to. Will this have push reverse? Cuz i like having that...

Yes, the kit retains the push down. The particular kit I got came with a new spring that had a higher spring coefficient so it takes a little more force to push down, which could have been what it was like when new. The instructions CC mentioned include details for installing it on every configuration possible- with push down, without push down, 5 speed, 6 speed, 5 with R in the bottom right, 5 with R in top left etc etc so you'll be set. Best advice I can give you is to make sure you have a 3/8" drive ratchet with an 8" extension (Unless you're plan on pulling apart your whole center console to do the install) and ABSOLUTELY get the allen key in socket form. I believe its a 6mm but could be wrong, but you will hate life something fierce if you try to break the linkage bolts with just an allen key. Getting the allen bit attached to a socket is about 5-6 bucks at sears and will let you break that bolt in about 3 seconds flat. I learned the hard way that that bolt, covered in 12 year old loctite DOES. NOT. BUDGE. by way of a mere allen key. Other than that, the install is pretty straightforward and with the right tools, should only take you an hour tops.

Yea, the kit is designed to work with any B5, so that covers any car from 1996-2001, all the A4's, the S4, and the A6 as well. The S4 has 6 speed with R in top left, and I think with the '96's push down was an option so there are some variations, but the kit includes every piece to adapt to the setup you have, which means there will be a few components not used, and the instructions are detailed as well for each setup so you should be good.
