Default Shade tree mechanic here

I am guessing or surmising, in looking briefly at an auction car, 97 cabriolet convertible, clocking 155,000 miles with 11 engine/trans codes, 5 being transmission, that there is a major transmission issue going on, do you agree before I buy it? Codes are 0753, 0758, 0763, 0768, 0773 and 1613. My mechanic friend says codes never point to the real issue, and I could probably replace all a thru e solenoids and not solve the problem.

If those are all transmission shift solenoid related codes (don't have them memorized, and to lazy to look up) one would think its a harness problem and not the individual solenoids. The front electrical connector gets full of oil, and or water and you start getting no shift, issues and all kinds of transmission problems.

Here; went an looked them up

17137 P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical
17142 P0758 Shift Solenoid B Electrical
17147 P0763 Shift Solenoid C Electrical
17152 P0768 Shift Solenoid D Electrical
17157 P0773 Shift Solenoid E Electrical

18021 P1613 MIL Call-up Circ Open/Short to B+

Almost certainly a harness issue.

I would stay away from it. A transmission for that vehicle would far exceed the value of the car.
