Default sequiental* shifter problems

Ok, I have an issue. 98 Audi A4 2.8 quattro auto. Today I got in my car to come up to a car meet and I went to put it into sequential shifter and looked down to the gears on the PRND23 was all in red and it would not go into sequencial. So I put I back into regular and the gears were still all in red. I don't know what it is. I need to send a picture I will. Someone please help. I'm new to these Audi's

that means your transmission is in limp mode. hook up vagcom and scan the transmission computer for codes.

limp mode means you will stay in 2nd gear no matter how much you mash on the gas. i think it's 2nd gear. it means you have a problem that the computer has detected and it's trying to limit your speed so you don't keep driving it like you usually do. it's also to let you drive it slowly to a shop lol. good design huh? do wut ghost said and then post the codes and search the code for a solution

there are different stages of limp mode i think. if there is something dangerously wrong you may be limited to only 2nd gear, but if its just some minor error it will light up those lights. its like a check engine light for your transmission. you need to have whatever codes are stored in there scanned before anything else can happen. write them down and post them here. until you do that we can only randomly guess whats wrong.

You can also have the codes scanned for free at some auto parts stores if you can't get your hands on vagcom. Look around.
