1.8 oil sludge
I got a letter from Audi of America saying that if I have had any repairs or damages to my engine caused by oil sludge they will cover the cost given that you provide details of the last two oil changes, meaning that you used approved oil in the engine or Mobil 1 0W-40 which is the most common. it doesnt matter if you are not the original owner, its for whomever is the current owner.

Don't forget kerosene evaporates when hot, and is just a bit more combustible than oil. A buddy of mine cleaned out his old 68 Chevrolet sedan with home heating oil (esentially deisel fuel) in the crankcase letting it run for 20 minutes years ago. Didn't seem to hurt the car, and it sure was clean inside when he was done. Don't smoke around it while your doing it though.

ran half a can of seafoam in my engine for 200 miles, changed oil and filter. Put in Mobil 1 0w-40. I noticed a difference. My low oil pressure light only came on 4 times in 20 minutes of driving, and each time with a longer interval of silence. Good news! However, I'm still taking it in to the stealership tomorrow to get looked at since no one else in my area does "serious" Audi repairs. They all recommended the dealership.

So is there any recommended "periodic maintenance"-type task I should be doing to prevent or treat sludge? I just changed the oil w/ Mobil-1 0W40, will any residual sludge (if there is any) eventually break down and get filtered out, or is it there to stay until I clean it out?

Closure, Dropped the oil pan, Yes the oil pick-up was clogged. Changed the oil pump, rod and main bearings, t-belt, tensioner and water-pump (was in there anyways) and then put it back together again. Engine runs strong!
