SAFE mode?
hello
i just bought an audi a4 1.8t quattro, and i got a great deal on it, but the only problem i have with it is that the radio is in safe mode. from what i hear you have to have a radio code, but i dont have one. what would be the best plan of action to get rid of this because its hard to drive without a radio or cd player. would it be better if i just get an alpine head unit or try and fix this? any tips would be helpful
Thanks
Scott

RE: SAFE mode?
If you want the OEM radio, look through the manuals that are in the glovebox. Usually the code is written in there. If not, you have to go to the dealership with the VIN number, title to the car, registration, and driver's license (to prove you are who you say you are, and that you own the car), pay them an hour's labor (which is BS), and they'll give you the code.
Personally, I'd say deep-six the whole stock system and redo it aftermarket, but that's just my $.02.

wow what a rip off, I just pulled my radio to put in an aftermarket unit. I figured I could sell the stock, but not for an hours worth of labor at a dealer, thats what $90+? Screw that. Tslennon, get an aftermarket, definitely not worth the price. I got a blaupunkt london that I can adjust the color on so it matches the red lights in the dash, looks good at night.

Yeah it is crap. Still, dig through the manuals and look for a four-digit number penciled in somewhere - that'd be the code. And remember, some dealerships are cooler than others. Most people have to pay since they have the service technician punch in the code and then give it to you written down, but I've heard of a couple people proving ownership and the dealer just giving them the code. That's about the time it'd pay to be a well-endowed female - it couldn't hurt

I had the sameissue with my car, when i bought it it was in safe mode, i just went to the dealership where they gave me the code for 50 bucks! yeah but in your case if you can figure out the dealership where ur car was bought then they should have it and should give it to you at no cost! my car was bought it connecticut and i live in FL so i had to take it to the dealership! the dealership where my car was bought disapeared! lol... it happens...
