thanks for the info. I am going to look for the problem today.

As for the rpm problem. My mechanic said it sounds like the IAC valve. Does this car have one? I know Hondas do.

No
dont do coils THEN plugs. That is really illogical.

Plugs are how much? $30/set MAX? and you can always inspect them for free! A coil is much more expensive and is usually not going to be the problems. Spark plugs have a tendency to wear out, coils shouldnt (but do).

Always start with the least expensive (reasonable) solution. I've got a bumpy drive every day. I could go out and buy a new all wheel drive system because I've assumed mine has gone bad or I could have the flat tire replaced.

Air filter if its not a K&N
Cabin air filter is not a huge deal, its not at all related to your engine and only will affect the "cleanliness" of your vent air.
I haven't messed with my throttle body yet.
You could also do a seafoam treatment. Its in a can available at your local Napa or whatever. Maybe ask your mechanic if he recommends it, but I do. Google it for procedures.
The seafoam treatment was recommended by my mechanic and after the procedure the car was fixed and was running smoothly again.

IT turned out to be the a ignition coil, had all 4 replaced by a Audi stealership for free as they has a recall on them.

I have a new issue now. 4th Gear incorrect Ratio. I can't get into 4th gear, the 2001 A4 Automatic AWM will just change to 2nd,3rd and when it tries to change to 4th gear, the engine jerks hard about 3 or 4 times, then the RPM's run high about 4-500 RPM's,won't change to 4th gear.

any time your CEL blinks, that means you have a pretty serious misfirejust so you guys know for future reference. that is the only time it will ever blink, EVER! haha. you might wanna make sure that they gave you the right transmission part that you just replaced. also, i dont recall you saying where you picked it up, but if you didnt get it off ECS tuning, or at a dealership, take that thing back! never buy anything for your car anywhere but those 2 places to avoid some serious headache. also AWE, APR, 034 motorsport etc. ecs is just the most user friendly. also, since yours is a 2001, you dont have an ignition control module, so if you ever have another misfire, these are your possible reasons from most likely to least likely: plugs, coils, MAF, MAP, boost leak, fuel pressure regulator, throttle body

Thanks for the information but as my last post states,i have been had that issue, solved by having new ignion coils, installed by a Audi stealership.

what advice would you give to me,regarding my 4th gear, not catching but jerking, when trying to shift into that gear?

I had the transmission fliud checked,it turns out,its Full! so that's not the cause of the slippage and jerking,it will shift twice, after a dead stop at a light, then when trying to shift a 3rd time, jerking about 3-4 times, then it RPM will go as high as 4000,while going 20-25 mph won't shift into the next gear.

I never had a shifting issue,i thought if there was a issue with my tranny,it would be noticable over a period of time and not just all of a sudden? just started last week.

I can drive it on the high way, only if i pull in the break down lane, shut off the car, then turn it back on,then it will shift 1st,twice,then jerk a few times, then it'll let me get up between 50-55 mph at around 4000 RPMs,i drive it 40 miles,to springfield, mass from bridgeport,CT there and back, with no problems.

when i hit it with my vag-com it comes up with a few hits,i need to get my laptop and copy n paste it here later, says "4th incorrect gear ratio" and a few other things.

I'll edit this with the info from my vag-com scan, later today. if anyone can give me some suggestions, from what i have posted, thus far, that would be awsome.
