Anyone use royal purple synthetic in their cars? I hear its a great lubricant but im not sure if its safe to use in my audi. Not sure where to find the list of oils that are safe to use in my car either.

Thanks,
Nick

Can't go wrong with Mobil1.
I've also used a couple other companies like Amsoil. Royal Purple is good stuff but mainly used for Jap cars.

Here is a list of the four full synthetic oils I have used on my car since the first oil change of my ownership (4 years) without any problems what so ever and I would recommend them to anyone:

1) Mobile 1 (used for 2 years)
2) Redline (used for 2 year)
3) Royal Purple (currently being used, but only my second change with this brand)
4) Amsoil (on my shelf waiting for next oil change so technically I have not used it yet.)

Even though three of the oils I have used are not on the the Audi list, does not in any way mean they are not excellent oils. If it's a good quality oil I would say it just comes down to personal choice. Many people are brand loyal, while others go off of price and Mobile 1 is the cheapest of the four oils I have tried while Amsoil is the most expensive. Royal Purple and Redline are about the same but not that far behind the Amsoil for price.

I wouldn't think brand would be a HUGE issue, as long as you're using the right kind of oil. I have heard nothing but good things about Royal Purple's products, though i have never used them myself. I use Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic and have had very good results.

I think you should be ok as long as you don't put AutoZone brand 40W in it lol.

As long as its full syn, you should be fine. People like RP dont pay to have their oil tested to see if it can be an approved oil. You will be fine using it

^ 1+ make sure its FULL synthetic. Not the blend. None should harm the engine and when it comes to preference its hard to PROVE which one is better. Its all personal, how the engine performs (butt dyno), how dark the oil is in the pan (RP seemed to be VERY clean when I used it and AMSOIL was almost new @ 5k miles on my 2.7). I'm currently using Mobil1 one because I got the quart for $2 so I bought 5 cases.

Royal purple is all I use. I have also put it in the rear differential but I still need to find time to drain and reaplce the transmision fluid.

Another thing to consider. I was reading on another forum and they were talking about RP gear oil. I guess our trannies use brass, or some yellow metal and apparently RP oxidizes yellow metals. Any info on this is helpful.
