Default rough riding problem

So my audi runs fine except the shifting is a little rough (its an automatic). And between the speeds 30-40 my car shakes. What can I do to fix both of these problems? I drive a 1997 audi a4 1.8T if that helps.

You could start by getting the tcm scanned, check the fluid, and check the mounts.

When was the last time the transmission was serviced?

I'm not sure, I bought the car from my dads friend and he bought It on craigslist a few months before so I could buy it off him. What should I do first and how much would it cost me?
