Check out the Thule rack fitter on www.rei.com or someplace like that. If you buy it all new it will be super expensive. Like $500+ if you get the locks and everything.

I think Thule actually makes the dealer rack for Audi. (can't back that up) Call Thule and ask if you can order just a 'footpad' they come with the 'fit kits' for your car. So unless your rack came off of another A4 of the same year you'll need one of the $65 fit kits that includes the pieces that make the towers fit your car and the rubber footpads. I didn't see anywhere where you can just buy the footpads themselves online. I'd also try going to REI and seeing if they can help you out. They are generally very helpful.

Go to a local ski shop and they should at least have a catalog of thule or yakima parts if they sell them. If you don't want to buy new find out which ones you need and start looking on ebay and craigs list. I picked up a set of mounts on ebay for about $100

RackNRoad.com sells them. California based company, but they've got shops in Utah and WA too. and they ship. Looks like they are having some sales.

Here's the lowdown if you want to go with a Thule.

Get the basic load bars and the towers. These will fit any car. I've seen them go for anywhere from $50 to $100 used. You can use these on other cars you buy in the future too. Just search for "thule rack" on Craigslist and you'll be bound to find something.

Then you'll need the fit kit to mount it on our Audi's. Included are 4 rubber pads and also 4 metal plates. For our Audi B5 sedans, it's Thule fit kit 249.

Then next is your ski/snowboard clamp attachment. The new ones slide in and out so you can get to your gear easier but most are the same. I've seen them go for $50 to $100 used as well.

So total, you are looking at about $150-$250 or so for a used complete ski rack if you can find it.
