Default replacing the timing belt

how hard is it to replace the timing belt on an 01 1.8? dont really work on cars but im able to figure stuff out and fix it pretty easily. but yeah id just like to know how hard it is to replace to see if i could maybe save myself a few bucks by doing it myself

Go to www.audidiy.com and take a look there - there's a step-by-step procedure with photos that will walk you through it. That should allow you to gauge the job and whether you feel confident tackling it.

As the earlier poster said, it's not a hard job...it's just an involved, long job. Check out Blauparts.com for the timing belt kit (and the special tools that make the job easier). Between their instructions and AudiDIY, it's not horrific. The one thing that I would really recommend having is a good set of socketed metric allen keys. You can do it with the regular L-shaped ones, but it's far more of a bitch of a job. A good droplight will help your cause, too.
