I've read (I believe from Auditech79) that you should use a 12-point socket on the bolts that attach the axle to the differential, or you risk stripping them out. And the pinch bolt at the hub (if that has to be removed) is a motherf***er for a lot of people, but other than that, it's a straightforward job. Go to www.audiworld.com and find the tech area, and follow the procedure for the front wheel bearing replacement, as that should walk you through the hub portion of the process. From there, just unbolt the axles from the diff and you'll be holding them in your hands.

make sure you have all the tools in hands!! if not its PITA

as my friend up here mention
you should use a 12-point socket on the bolts that attach the axle to the differential
its a 12 point 8mm that you need
also make sure you have at least an allen key of 14mm.

Depends on the year of the car though - some B5s (I believe mine included) use a 17mm hex socket bolt on the front and a 14mm on the rear. I bought a kit at AutoZone with a 12, 14, and 17 hex socket in it, for under $10. Get that, and you'll be set for whatever setup you have. And CIA is definitely right - go over the DIY procedures (or a manual if you have one) and make sure to inventory your tools before you start. Much easier to go get anything you'll need before you start, rather than having to stop midway through and go out to get a tool or two.
