Default Replacement key fob 1998 audi a4 2.8l

Bought this beauty about 6 months ago and the owner before the guy I bought it from managed to lose every single key the car came with so I have 2 replacement ilco keys that don't have any buttons. Where should I buy a good key fob replacement? Not the stealership please also can I program it myself since I have 2 keys? I really want the key fob with the switchblade key it looks amazing! Thanks

Are the ones on ebay good? Do I need to go to the stealership to program it?

You can program a compatible fob in about 20 seconds. You'll need a dealer, though, to cut the switchblade metal key.

hi there! i personally bought from ebay and all i got was crappy quality blank key blades at £35, everytime i had to make them cut by a locksmith friend they would just break and that happened three times! i never bought a fob though, so i can't tell. if you are going to buy from there just make sure you get the right one check the code on the back of it. even though i would not really advice you to get it from there, i still think that it will just be a waste of money. after all those horrible experiences from ebay my friend reccomended me to call this company How do Car key Fobs Work? | Car Key Programming Technology so finally i got a new spare key and also a year warranty for £120.

A dealership flip key with fob runs about $130. By the time you pay for shipping from eBay and a locksmith to cut it for you, you're almost up to that cost anyways.

Most lock smiths wont cut it unless they have a laser cutting machine anyways. The 7- bucks you pay at the dealer for the flip part is worth it, then search for a fob portion of the Key FOB on the forums. Dont mess with ebay it wont be right

As I too am new to this forum, I’m not sure what part of the country you’re from so, please excuse. I’m from Denver and I just had a key fob cut for me. I bought the fob shell on ebay for $9.00, and bought another programmable audi fob on CL for $20.00. I had the key cut by Ollie’s Lock & Key 720-445-5397 for Free! (BTW this guy is Great!!!) I gave him a $10.00 tip. All-in-all $39.00. Dealer wanted $250 for the key & fob plus another $75 to cut it. Ollie can order and cut the key based on the VIN but, expect $150 (Which is still very cheap by comparison to the “stealership”). Of NOTE: If there have been 4 keys made for the car , you’ll need to have the chip remapped.
Bottom line: Hit up a private auto locksmith in your area; promote small business and save a bundle.

The dealer in MD told me 160 for the whole deal cut OEM and everything, I think your dealer is trying to rob you.

My dealer was down to $130, and programmed it for free despite saying that would cost another $60. All depends on which dealership and how nice of a day they're having

If you decide to go the eBay route to buy an uncut key, make sure you're buying the right size blade. There are two different sizes.
