Replace Coolant Transfer Tube

Replace Coolant Transfer Tube
I was just informed by my local mechanic that my Audi A4 2.8 has a pin hole in the Coolant Transfer Tube. They are already replacing the water pump under warranty from a faulty water pump as part of a repair made 2 years ago. The leak was discovered after they put it back together and pressurized the system.
I am somewhat mechanically inclined and can do most basic repairs. Based on the quote it looks like the Manifold has to be removed to get to this tube. The reason I had the shop do the water pump repair was because I felt that removing the entire front end including the timing belt was outside of my comfort zone.
So the question is, I cannot find any information on this tube using this site or Google. Has anyone replaced one of these tubes? What are the risk and difficulty if all I need to do is remove the intake manifold including replacing the gasket while I am there? If it involves removing the front end again then I will likely let the shop do the work.
