Removing shifter surround?

Does the shifter surround just pull up and out? I didnt want to risk breaking anything.

i usually use my key as its always handy. although it has left a mark over the years

just push the boot down so you can feel the lip the the shifter trim no need to leave a mark with a key. gotta have hulk hands
