Removing the parking brake cable from the lower arm
Hi, I've got a 98 A4 2.8qm and I'm in the process of removing my rear control arms, but I'm stumped on how to remove the parking brake cable from the lower arm. There seems to be a plastic piece maybe 3 inches long covering the cable inside the arm and partially covering the sections outside the arm. This is holding the cable in place and I've no idea how to remove it. Any suggestions? Haynes was useless and diys dont seem to mentoon it

Jonesy don't you have to disconnect the cable up in the back of the console and pull them all the way out? As I recall, that plastic piece in the lower arm only comes out front to back. Yes, it's a giant pain.

This is a tremendous pain in the ***, sometimes I really wonder what the hell Audi's engineers were thinking when they designed these cars. Is it possible to disconnect the parking brake at the adjustment ****? I'm tempted to just cut the cable at this point, I just want to finish.

It is a pain in the ***. Before you cut the cable, click this link. You'd need two of these....
Audi B5 A4 Quattro V6 30v > Braking > Parking Brake > ES#430042 Parking Brake Cable - Right - 8D0609721AB
Audi B5 A4 Quattro V6 30v > Braking > Parking Brake > ES#430042 Parking Brake Cable - Right - 8D0609721AB

If you're pressing in new bushings, you might want to think of borrowing one of those portable like presses where you can just flip the arm around without taking it off the cable and pressing them in right there.

I need to go to a junkyard anyway because the rear strut mounts were completely rusted away. I'll just pull them off a car while I'm there. Unless its possible to disconnect from the adjustment **** that's what I'm gonna have to do. Spending over a week on rear control arms in 20 degree weather is not my idea of fun, I'll wait til it gets warmer out and redo the parking brake.
