recharge the ac??
My ac switches on and the in about 3 seconds kicks back off. Why is this? Does it need to be recharged? I was wondering if there was any way to charge the ac in a 1996 audi A4 2.8LQ. Ive heard that it runs around 120$ to do. is there a cheaper way to do it? Is the reason for this because there is no low port to charge it from? Can i do it myself? and what do i need to do it?

RE: recharge the ac??
first off... what is the temp outside when it does this? if its around 32 degrees F. This is normal. look on your dash on the heads up.. if there is a little snow flake then this is just normal. NAPA or Autozone of stores of that sort will have a do it yourself kit, ina can.. never used one myself so i couldnt tell you anything about them

do not charge thru the hi side port!!!!this will push the oil out of the compressor and burn it up pretty dam quick. remove the cowl, i believe the ports are there. also a 'normal' amount of automotive a/c seepage is about 1/4 lb per year. if you feel its getting weak, charge it with a UV dye so you can find the leak (if there is one)
