Default Confessions of a tool snob

So I always preach that there is a right way to do things, and any other way is the wrong way. Sometimes, the wrong way is the only way:

The bolt and the metal sleeve inside the bushings had become one piece. No amount of PB Blaster was going to free them up. New parts are on order, hopefully all the parts I need will be in that mess.

Of course, I bought a Harbor Freight 12ton press to do this work, and the stupid knuckle does not fit properly into the press. Anyone ever do this themselves that can offer some pointers? The hub does not fit into the "pressing table" and there is not much I can support the knuckle with as I press the hub/bearing out. So how'd you do it?

Sawzall is a good idea. But did you try a torch first?

Nope. Flame and rubber don't mix so well. The issue is that the bolt rusted to the inner sleeve. Any heat hot enough to free the bolt would have melted (at least partially) the rubber/poly bushing itself, no?

If you applied heat directly to the rubber, yes. It may have free'd up the sleeve from the bolt despite melting the rubber a bit. You're getting new bushings anyway, I'd hope! Heat is good. Just stay away from the shocks...

i would take the hub to the dealership and see if one of the techs would be willing to press it for you. what you have to do is press the hub out first and then press the bearing out. most presses press them downward so what you need to do is have something around the caliper carrier area to hold the spindle and press the hub out. then once the hub is out, the bearing can be pressed out. basically the hub is in the bearing which is in the spindle. it sux lol
