I've determined today that the car is not boosting. I can normally hear the turbo and I cannot hear it at all now. A friend with a 1.8T Passat suggested that it could be that the diaphram in the actuator is shot, therefore not closing the wastegate.

Thoughts?

Had a sort of really weird events with my car recently. ECU was reporting like 4 or 5 sensors going bad...it wouldn't start...turns out it was a bad ECU. Replaced the ECU with one from ebay, and now the car will start and run, and has the performance of a stock 1.8T. If "performance" and "stock 1.8T" can be used in the same sentence....

Check to see if your diverter valve is working properly. I wasn't getting boost and thats how I solved the problem.

No edit on mobile sucks. Go to the DIY section and do a boost leak check before you start replacing unnecessary parts.

If ur in limp mode like you say then you should have codes. Maybe not a cell but a code for sure san and tell. It could be you're dv like you said. Do a test on it and see if its leaking. But codes will point u in the right direction.

There's no codes. I did a leak test over the weekend. There were no leaks, however my test created one. A hole developed in the turbo inlet..so I'm working with a guy on here to get a replacement. (I'm fixing this car in order to sell it.)

The car still has no codes. I'm going to replace the turbo inlet, "pancake" valve (mine is past dry rotted) and the N75 valve.

The diverter valve is an aftermarket one that is metal. I'll double check the valve, while I'm replacing the turbo inlet pipe, but I don't think that's the culprit.

No codes or no cel? There is a difference. And if you are in limp mode you have codes no if and or buts. There would have to be a reason for the ecu to go into limp mode ex: a code.
