yup looks like the same exact thing. If you dont replace it i would say that the tensioner could go bad and possibly end up skipping a tooth and screwing up your engine if its bad it should sound like a diesel. Take a screwdriver and put the tip right above the tensioner and the plastic part up to your ear it acts as a stethoscope if its coming from that spot only it def is the tensioner.
The main cause for cam tensioner noise is oil pressure rather than the assembly itself.
First have someone check the oil pressure and make sure its up to par. If its ok then you have to replace the entire tensioner, you can't re-build it. They can be pretty pricey, especially if you have the electronic one.
i had the same problem with my 2001 a4 1.8t awm and it turned out oil sludge is a common problem with this model and this causes the cam tensioner to go out. try having an engine flush with a fully synthetic oil change and have your oil pick up tube checked for oil coking or sludge, this is what i had to do to fix my cam tensioner problem.
Did some research and came up with those two paragraphs. It seems like they revised the part for the awm motors and you want the k revision which runs more expensive. I believe... ask around more to make sure and that passat writeup is a good one they are the same exact engines
