random and multiple cylinder misfires?
recently the car started acting wierd outta the blue... it felt like its losing power through accelration but nothing as bad as what happened today.. i could barely go over 25 mph.....
ok well here are the codes
P0300- random
P0301- cyl 1
P0302- cyl 2
P0303- cyl 3
but the wierd thing is, when i hooked it up to the scan tool, each code came up twice... is that normal? the car is acting really sluggish and sputtering...
but another issue im having is its making a rattling noise underneath the car, it sounds like its coming from the cats.. sounds like a bolt in the cats or something.... anyone have any ideas of what the culprit might be?

I'm not as familiar with the 2.8s or 12v's but spark plugs, wires, coil packs, icm, head gasket. Those are the common ones on 1.8s, but I'm not sure your car has an icm. But since only bank 1 seems to be firing, id look into that head gasket or whatever is controlling the spark to that bank alone.

How old are your plugs? It's cheaper to try out some new ones and see what happens before buying coil packs. Just make sure they're perfectly gapped. Oh, but first, try switching the coil packs from bank 1 with the bank 2 side to see if the codes move. If they do, then it's the coil packs.

Hey PHIL! Man, sorry to hear about your 12V acting funny. I don't know squat about them, but I can tell you that you need to be careful. It does sound like half of your engine isn't working at all, so you're probably dumping all that unburnt fuel into your cat, which could be the cause of rattling your hearing. Bad, bad juju.
+1 on what A4 2000 said, test your packs by switching them out before just throwing money at your car, although that method has been rumored to work (crumple up $100 bills and throw it in the engine bay). I think us fast boys with the 1.8T (2.0) have given all the advice we got. Hopefully someone with the 2.8 and knowledge stops by. As a matter of fact, you might want to consider PMing Jeremy (Imthedevil). I know he and his crew up there in NY have a world of knowledge.
