Default Random Acceleration

Ok, so if anyone could help me with this I'd appreciate it. I'll be driving and all of a sudden it will accelerate all by its self and I can feel the pedal depress as it goes to 4k rpm but that is all the higher it will go on its own. Also, if I need to stop it from accelerating on its own I have to push the pedal to the floor and it will stop accelerating for a bout 5 seconds. Also, if I am shifting accelerating on my own and push it to the floor it bogs down the same way. With it after about 15 minutes the car will bog down almost to what I've heard of limp mode? it will not let me accelerate until I shut the car off then back on. the idle rpms fluctuate some times and if I leave it idle after I've been driving the rpms will drop, bounce back up, then die. Not sure if it helps, but have been told that the car is running rich by my mechanic. He said he thinks there is a good chance the maf has gone bad. I have a K&N drop in, but the accelerating issues were happening before that. I was told the accelerating problem is possibly the TPS, but I have changed that out. Anyone ever heard of this or have any way I can test it. I have a 96 v6 12v quattro

Did you do a throttle sensor alignment (TBA alignment) afterward? If not, do one. The search feature will tell you how to do it with vagcom or just with your key. I agree - it sounds like the sensor needs alignment to fix it.

I tried with the key that is, It sounded like it was making some sounds, but then no change was ever made. I don't have a vag com person near me, but I would be willing to maybe buy one. I'm not really sure which one to buy. I'd prefer to not buy the one from rosstech for 150 if there is a cheaper one as I don't have a great deal to spend and I do need tires ha.

If you can get a new rosstech for $150, snap that up. They go for $250 on their website.

ok, I guess what I am asking is, are there any other alternatives as far as the cable goes? I have the software and I think it is the right version. If I were to buy a cable what do I need to know?

They have a free version available to download on their website, but I don't know that you'd be able to do measuring blocks and adaptations with it. You could get yourself a scanner from ECS tuning, their "pro" version does adaptations, measuring blocks, airbag and service interval light resets, as well as CEL's and code reading, all for about $100. Not as fancy or full-featured as a fully unlocked Vag Com, but its not $400 either.
