Radio fades to mute

Radio fades to mute
Hey Fellow Audilites,
I own a 96 A4 Quatrro 2.8
I've had this problem persistenly over the last 2 months.
My car radio will be playing fine for a while ( like 20 minutes)
then over a period of 2 minutes it will slowly fade the volume and go mute until I leave the car off for a while.
I though my radio was simply dying so I changed it to a Ipod compatible pionner and the radio worked fine, however sadly the same problem persists.
Its my belief something is overheating somewhere due to either bad power, wireing or grouding. I rechecked/redid my hookoup wires from the radio and figured since the factory stock radio had the same problem it went beyond the radio.
I did notice what looks to be an amp next to the cd changer in the trunk however I am not entirely convinced that is not just the CD changer's power and control panels.
My grounds are all connected and I cleaned out my battery's plugs and grounds. I've also checked and changed the fuses in the box.
Now that might be isolated, however my car has another problem of stalling every once in a while when slowing down or stopped, most often right after fuel ups. I figured these two were unrelated but it may be symptoms of a general power issue in the car.
Any suggestions would be helpful, i'm trying to not go to a specialist yet as this is my "learn to work on cars" car .

My stock radio was acting up too, volume would go up and down randomly, would change from AM to FM to Tape randomly. So i replaced it and have not had a problem.
As far as your radio issue goes, does it feel hot to the touch? I feel like if you had a bad connection and were jumping a ground someplace, you would blow a fuse before the radio would heat up and turn off.
I don't think the radio and motor issues are related. Is your ECU throwing any codes? Regardless of a CEL, sometimes you might be throwing codes and not know it.
P.S. you picked a hell of a car to start "learning to work on cars". My Audi is far and away the most complicated vehicle i've ever worked on, and i've always done all my own work. GL!
