Rack & Pinion Blues?

no need for the damper. the amount of pentosin you have left should be enough. yes the bleeding involves turning the wheel back and forth for a zillion times with the cap on reservoir off and somebody filling it as more air is pushed out.
warning: please make sure you have ample amounts of beer to consume during the process.

If you're still at all uncomfortable about which rack you want, call up www.ecstuning.com and ask them which rack you need based on your VIN - they should be able to cross-reference it and tell you.

Jumping In
Okay, the R & P allegedly arrived in my son's possession yesterday, Pearl Harbor day, which will trigger another kind of war- the War of the Rack and Pinion R&R! He'll be with his Car Uncle, my dear friend, who's friendship I'm likely testing/straining with this job on the A4. A digital manual has been acquired but I'm very, very interested, on their behalf, apart from a quality beer and perhaps lifting the car up high for easier/easiest access, if there's any other hot tips out there from all your fellow warriors? Any shared experiences in this regard would obviously proove helpful. Think they're going to tackle the job on Saturday. . .
Gratefully awaiting any knowledge!

Job Done
Of course, this report is by proxy since I wasn't there. However, frequent phone calls throughout the project revealed a very successful R & R of the Rack and Pinion unit. They also found worn tie rod ends and replaced those too. Again, a plug for CarSteering.com, from whom I purchsed the rebuilt unit. Haven't sent the core back yet but that on-line transaction went smoothly and their prices seem as good as anybody's out there.
The boy reports the car's steering great after a day of tight turning as the system bled out all the air bubbles. The entire job, from wheels off to back on again, took the guys about 5 hours!!!!! I/we anticipated a possbile two-day project but obviously that wasn't the case!
Thanks to all of you for your sage and sometimes playful advice!
