quick question about valve covers not gaskets

Looks like the breather hoses broke at some point and the PO tried to be creative in fixing it. That hose should go to the back of the engine along the driver's valve cover and connect to a vacuum source back there, at the moment it looks like you have to crankcase ventilation system at all, which isn't exactly a good thing.

Yeah, it's more like an oil vapor balance tube than anything else. The kicker is, I've worked on a LOT of 30v engines (A4 and S4) and I've never seen one with PCV connectors positioned like these are. The typical VC has the connector on top, pointing forward on the passenger side, rearward on the driver side, connected by that piece of crap rectangular corrugated PCV breather hose. These are completely different. I'd love to know what car they originally came from (if not this A4).

i called the an audi parts guy at the audi dealership and he made it sound like it was supposed to be like that... this is the AHA engine code. but idk. im still kind of weary about this

Either add a Tee and run it to the intake or catch can. This should help relieve the pressure and help the motor greatly.

Mine is an AHA as well and I have different covers.

ya see i dont think he understood the way i was trying to describe it.. why does mine have to be the weird one! lol

any tips on running a catch can?

Either buy a good catch can and run a rubber hose (3/4") to it and a filter on the other side or run the other side back to the air intake.
