Default Questions about oil lines for turbo.

Can anyone tell me if you can change the oil feed and return lines for the turbo without removing the turbocharger?

I know you can replace the feed line without removing the turbo. I don't know about the return line, although I would expect the same.

The feed line can definitely be replaced without removing the turbo. The most difficult part is snaking it through the Medusa mess in back of the block and aligning the banjo bolt at the oil cooler without cross-threading it. Use ONLY the OEM replacement line or a reputable flexible line such as PSI Concepts. Aftermarket lines tend to kink and the brackets often don't line up, making it impossible to get the banjo bolts back in.

The return line can be removed without removing the turbo as well. Remove the two pan-head bolts holding the turbo bracket in place. Then you have clear access to the pan head bolts holding the return line in place. It's difficult to work around the SAI pump on later models, and it's hard to keep the gasket in place during re-install, but do-able with some patience.

Be sure to replace all crush washers and gaskets. Two for each banjo bolt on the feed line, 2 gaskets for the return line.

I swapped out my oil return line a few weeks ago with the turbo still on the car. As Tweaked said the turbo brace needs to be removed (the bolts holding it in are a major PITA though). Personally I find it easiest to also remove the AC compressor, which requires removing the AC belt and tensioner (those can be tough with the front bumper still on if you've never done them before).

Ok everyone thanks for the input. I hate to say it but I sold my A4Q last week to a close friend and want to make sure everything is taken care of before it goes to a new home. This car has been in the family since new and is almost in new condition after 11yrs. My father was the first owner. He was 66 when he first picked it up new. It has always been serviced by The Porche/Audi Dealer. I have all records since day one. I hate to see it go but with 5 kids and all of the car pooling the thing is just to small.
