Default Question while replacing vacuum lines

I'm replacing my vacuum lines and I have a question. There is a vacuum line that runs from the tray over the throttle body, along the passenger side valve cover and under the coil pack tray into what looks like a piston-type pump mounted to the front of the intake manifold. First, what is that part called, and do you know if there is a way to replace the braided hose coming out of it? I looked and the hose disappears into the part.

Thanks in advance!

is that the diverter valve your talking about? is it located real close to the A/C compressor? if it is then the vacuum hose just pops off. you can replace it with any vac line that fits (i forget the size, maybe 4mm?) its not perminantly attached.

I think I answered part of my question - Bentley calls it the vacuum solenoid for Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) valve.

Okay, the connection was recessed but accessible. BTW, this was the line connecting the intake manifold changeover components shown on M 24-6 in the manual.

In replacing all of my vacuum hoses today, I noticed that the hose connected to the IMT valve desperately needs replacing. I took off the ignition coil pack to access the IMT valve, then removed the IMT valve(didn't know there was a spring in there, d'oh!).

It was at this point that I chickened out and did not pull the hose off. I was afraid the connection is deep inside the vacuum solenoid.

Could someone with a Bentley manual handy please confirm that this nipple is easily accessible? I'd really appreciate it.

Btw, the Bentley manual is going to be ordered soon.

I was thinking of replacing all of my vacuum hoses as well with this Audi B6 A4 FWD 1.8T > Search > Vacuum Hose > ES#250254 Blue Silicone Vacuum Hose (3.5x2) 15 Feet - 51731257971B5M

is that the right size 3.5mm?

Right size, wrong source. Go with Flex Technologies - Your Silicone Hose Solution instead. Same stuff, WAY less money.
