Default question about rust

hey im a couple months away from a purchase of a b5 and im really excited
but i live in canada and where i live the cars are way to marked up so im going to another part of the country to buy one
i might be buying from ontario which has a lot of acid rain and uses salt on their roads for the winter
i was just wondering how bad the rust on the cars are???

what year is the car and how many miles? the exhaust should be perfectly fine however the brakes and suspension should be rusted pretty well if it's older than 5 years or so

it cost around 800-1000 USD to lower the car. something in that range will have quite a bit of rust on it but it shouldn't affect things much.

I would stay away from cars from the eastern provinces if you can, it is very harsh with the salt, acid rain and moisture from the lakes. I bought one that had spent time in Quebec which had rust on the front and rear subframes and suspension components. Importing from the U.S. is not that difficult. They are some of the only parts not galvanizedas far as I can tell. Check around the battery forrust.I bought a 98 2.8 with sport suspension which is lowered about 1"?(not exactly sure)and it slides very controllably on dry pavement. good luck, B.

overall audi panels are galvanized metal on both sides so rust should be minimal if any. also audi has a 10 rust warranty so... the main that will probably rust are usualy bolts, exhaust and what not, pretty much stuff that common to rust eventually on any car.

It is hard to say, it really is how it was taken care of. Garage kept, if he cleaned it all the time ect.

im from toronto, and i found my car with 91,xxxkm on it. Body has been well maintained, and no rust. The exhaust doesnt look too bad either. It is true that the frame is galvanized and there is a 10yr warranty. So rust shouldnt really be a problem but it all really depends on how well it waskept. Very hard to find a car under 90km. good luck on your search and you wont be dissappointed.
