Default Question about painting

Hi everyone

I am new to this forum but I read it a lot and find some good information, so thanks
I decided to register to ask some questions, I bought a A4 98 Quattro 2.8 7 month ago and It runs great, especially after some repairs on it. But I have a lot of scratches and some rust on it. So I want to repaint the car, it will be a good occasion to repaint all the car because the color is very mat and I do not like that. So I do not want to do it myself, do you have an idea of the price to repaint all the car ?
I guess it is not cheap

thanks

Well, I bought mine with a key scratch all the way down the passenger side, and was quoted $715 to repaint that side. That's about half the car so I'm willing to bet the whole car would run about $1000-$1500 or so.

For the record, I would never take any car to Maaco, or anyplace like Maaco, for any reason. But I still don't see how you could be comfortable spending that kind of money on a paint job. Figure about $350-$500 for a gallon of paint, $200-$250 for primer and clearcoat,and$50/hr labor (the going rate for paint/body work inmy area), I don't see a full paint job going much over $1500 or so.

a 1500 paint job is going to be crap! 5-7 might be a little high but if you want a good job it will be no cheaper than 3k.

Yeah a good paint job will be "a couple thousand" which is NOWHERE near 5-7k!!! I got quoted at a reputable local place near Cleveland and it was $2700.

Alright, a couple thousand then. My car is only worth $5500 - no way I'd spend anywhere near $5000-$7000 to paint it. The OP's car is only a year newer than mine, so I don't imagine him/her feeling any different.
