Question question about the 1996 a4

ok so i went to dealership today to find out if car as quattro or fwd... he looks it up by the vin... and it comes up as an A4 limousine (wtf does that mean?)... so then he looks up by model, year and vin... and tells me its quattro and he shows me according to my vin its quattro.. then he says.. actually according to this computer the 96 model only came in quattro... so i was stoked

so then i get home... check online through kell blue book... and they give me an option for fwd... i check edmunds and they have fwd option too.. but ive also seen sites saying there is a 1.8t for the 96 which i know for a fact is wrong... so who do i believe... audi or internet? even on the front of the car by intake it says "this vehicle is equipped with a permanent AWD system and is restricted from 2wd dynomometers"... <<< so does that mean i really am quattro??

i want my car to be AWD but if its not then i dont wanna look like a d bag telling people it is lol

You dont know?? How long have you had this car?

ShopKey lists both.

Whats your VIN? You can run in through several Audi Vin decoders online.

Of course you can always look to see if theres a driveshaft heading to the rear and ending in a differential

I have seen other fwd 96's. Or at least people who claim they are fwd.. If it's a quattro it should have the quattro badge on the front grille which yours clearly doesn't and if that was taken off it should also say quattro on dash on the passenger side. I dunno what's with the permanent awd message under the hood. You post a lot of threads.

do your front tires ever spin? haha, some grills don't come with a quattro badge, but i think the interior trim always does

Ok.. I gotta ask: Did you buy a FWD car? Did the last owner say it was FWD? I'm kinda lost man...? Just what was it you thought you were buying? Inquiring minds need to know!

the guy i bought the car from got it as a gift from his dad which was the original owner... i asked if it was fwd or quattro when i bought it and he said he didnt know... there were no trunk badges or grill badges either so i just assumed it was fwd... but when i went to audi they said only quattro was made in 96... so idk wtf is going on anymore lol.. im lost
