and the project begins

actualy i kept the crank to save a few hundred $ and cause i felt i dont need to go all the way to 2.0L cause i wont be pushing a large turbo- and will stop me from spending money on one heh.
undecided on the mani. probably one of those SPA maifolds for like $450, they are supposed to be pretty decent although i would need to get a wastegate, either that or have 034 make me one for 900. i have a mbc already, a walbro 255 in-tank and unitronics 630(660?) should be enough right?

you wont need standalone. you can go with CTapp or Unitronics for tuning. its gona be like 700. i would go with a 3071r .63 over a 2871r. produces much more power and not much more lag.
and i would get scat rods, dont think anyone has even broken one yet, and they're cheaper, and you dont even need pistons unless your trying to lower compression.

CTapp tunes 3071r's but do Unitronics? Since the rods are in, really could go 3076 without worrying about a new hole in his block. That's for overall power. But on the low end the .63 will do as good as the 28 although most DD's are 2871's. SPA makes a good reliable mani. Don't get a cheap ebay one. Full-race are great although there is a big price tag on em.

what kinda hp difference would i be looking at between a 28 and a 3071r? and unitronics doesnt make a drop-in-and-go tune, but i can just get their big turbo files with probably either 600 or 800 injectors. it will be fine tuned on a dyno anyways.
i would love a full race, but cant justify $1200 on a manifold. if i win the lottery-definately full race.
i dunno im undecided about alot of aspects still... if im using a 2871r i could just get rods and a turbo and slap them in my current car and go. if im overboring it i might as well go 2 liter, but then i need a crank as well as pistons... but with that amount of displacement a 2871 would definately loose its breath in the higher rpm range.
ya know i started out wanting a k04 about 8 months ago lol. the more a researched, the bigger the turbo and and the bigger my plans got. i thought i had made up my mind with a 2871. you bastards givin me ideas.....

Well what's your net goal? A lot of guys want a fast daily driver but most of all reliable (me). Some don't care much about reliabilty and comfort since its a weekend car so they get as more hp as they can. The advantage of a GT3071r .63 is that it'll have a similar spool of a smaller 28 but great power on a lesser tune. 18psi on a 30 will be bout the same pull of a 24psi tune on a 2871r. That'll be hard on the turbo and you'll need a replacement quicker. Also to run that much boost pressure you'll need to be constantly adjusting the AFPR as with the more boost you'll need more fuel. As a DD I haven't heard of complaints on the 2871. But if you want whiplash power a 3071 or 76 are a better choice with the backlash that you'll need different software and at least a stage 4 clutch, otherwise they'll be sticking like pancakes. If you know you won't regret 300awhp stick with your plans for the 2871r. I don't know who makes 870cc's anymore so the 660's should do fine.

as for manifolds, it depends on what your lookin for. if you want quicker spool the SPA manifold is a better choice but if you can sacrifice a bit of spool for much better top end, the full race or 034 tubular manifold is what you want

an optimal street setup in my mind is a 2.0 3076r. i would spend the extra money for it. waaay better than a 1.8 2871r setup
how would a 2.75" non-resonated milltek enhaust be with a 3076r, wouldnt be too much restriction would it? i heard alot of guys going 3" with a gt30 or 35 series.
the car needs to be reliable enough to get me to work 5 days a week, but i have no problem being under the hood every weekend (and weekdays after work ) tweakin stuff. will hopefuly be going to the track every once in a while. me and my friends spent last summer fixing up a formula V race car, the guy who owns it is in China for 2 semesters of school, so when he gets back next summer- its on!

you have a similar plan to the project ive been doing with mine for quite some time now... i plan on using my milltek 2.75 without a resonator and im pushing a little over 2 liters with a t3/t4.
on manifolds, im very happy with 034's build quality of the tube mani they welded up for me, except it is very interesting and annoying trying to run an intake and maf. as of now i have a flowstack and cone filter sticking out of where my passenger headlight should be.
the 2.8 trans is very nice upgrade, but the gears are still not that tall.
Mike@DTH is a great guy to have help you. Hes knowledgable and very experienced in this area, Im not sure if you are familiar with his car or not, but its creme de la creme

yea im leaning in the direction of 034 for the exhaust mani. few hundred cheaper then a full race but still nice top end. ive talked to mike before, only thing about his car im not digging is the paint job, but hes got one fast a4.
